December 9th was the Ginger Snap Day! In Sweden we eat Ginger snaps, or Pepparkakor as we call them, mostly around Christmas time. Ginger snaps have been around since the 1300s. In Sweden the Ginger Snap Day was established in 1996.
For me the best way to eat them is with some creamy blue cheese. And of course served with a small cup of warm glögg (Swedish Mulled Wine). For my glögg recipe see my post from last year.
This time of the year many Swedish people bake their own ginger snaps at home. Here in US I can easily the Swedish ginger snaps in the grocery stores. Two Swedish brands Nyåkers and Anna’s pepparkakor is easy available. These brands I could also find in both Canada and the Netherlands when I lived there.
They also come in different flavors. My favorites are the Original ones and the Almond that is featured here.
