The other week I attended the Swedish Christmas market here in Toronto. I would say this is the Swedish grocery market event of the year! So all Swedes lined up, yes we are very polite in Sweden and stay in lines, and then we bought all our goodies!
Among the goodies I bought was a crisp bread from Swedish Polar bread. I must say I really love the soft Polar bread but hey I’m in Toronto so I’m not picky, I go for the hard one!
To make a real treat I went over to Whole Foods and picked up the Norwegian whey cheese. Due to the color this cheese is often called brown cheese. We called it goat cheese as the cheese is made from whey from both cow and goat. I honestly admit this cheese is not for everyone. My parents are from a tiny place just 20 km from the Norwegian border. When I grew up we often had this cheese at my grandmothers’ places as well as at our home. The cheese is quite sweet and it is a little sticky. It sticks to your gum when you eat it! The price here in Canada was probably about 3 times what the cheese will cost in Sweden and Norway. But it is a treat!
Now I sit here and enjoying this treat and to top it all off I serve it with hot chocolate! The combination brings back memories sitting out in the snow after some skiing.
Remember Life is too short to not eat and drink well!
