It is lovely to be back home in Sweden. The other day I had some very good friends visiting me in Gothenburg and as we all love good food I had to treat them with a nice traditional lunch.
I love the Swedish seafood! Traditionally the seamen would boil our shrimp, crayfish, crabs and lobsters out at the sea in the seawater and we still try to mimic this saltier water when boiling our shellfish.
A very traditional dish is an open shrimp sandwich. It is just peeled boiled shrimp, with mayonnaise and hard boiled egg. These ingredients are topped on a piece of bread. And then decorated with some lettuce, dill and a slice of lemon.
In Gothenburg the most famouse place to eat this is at restaurant Heaven 23. Their King Size Shrimp Sandwich is so full of shrimp so sometimes it is hard to finish! Heaven 23 is located at the top of Gothia Hotel on, yes, their 23rd floor. While enjoying the delicious shrimp sandwich we also had a great view out over Gothenburg.
Remember Life is too short to not eat and drink well!
