The other day my colleague and I asked our taxi driver if he could recommend a good seafood place here in Vancouver. He immediately said Blue Water Cafe + Raw bar in Yaletown. He also had some other suggestions but this was the one he came back to a couple of times. He said that he never picked up someone at Blue Water who hadn’t been happy with their meal. We though did some more research and this restaurant comes up with quite good reviews. So we called and made a reservation for last night’s dinner. And was we in for a treat!
We started with a couple of oysters and then we went directly for main course.
My colleague chose the Qualicum Bay Scallops served with caramelized belgian endives, wild rice griddle cake, candied ginger and citrus sauce. The scallops were made to perfection and the sauce was the dot over the i. Just enough citrus to match the saltiness of the scallops. The endives were quite bitter so they were not a hit but everything else were just perfect!
Myself I picked the Arctic Char with braised leeks, fennel, wakame seaweed, dungeness crab, Noilly Prat beurre blanc with trout caviar and pearl couscous. O’boy! This was to die for! For me this taste almost like home. These are the tastes I get in a good restaurant in Stockholm. I was in heaven! And yes, I took a side order of scallop.
To this wonderful meal we went local and drank a Stoneboat Pinto Gris 2010 from British Columbia! The wine was crisp with some citrus tones so went very well with our meal.
